A babymoon is a special time for expectant parents to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other's company before the arrival of their baby.
The term "babymoon" was first used in 1996 in the book "The Official Guide to Sex and the City" by Candace Bushnell (you learn something new every day). Still, it was not until the early 2000s that the term became widely used, and fast forward to today, babymoons are now more popular than ever before.
Many hotels and resorts offer special packages explicitly geared for babymoons, and you'll find there are lots to choose from. Whether it's a weekend away in the UK or venturing further afield, you'll want somewhere peaceful and romantic with lots of pampering.
When Should I Go On A Babymoon?
You can plan your babymoon for any time during your pregnancy before your baby arrives, but usually, it'll be during the second trimester.
This is because you'll (hopefully) feel better with any first-trimester ailments subsiding, and you'll be able to travel comfortably with your growing bump.
It may be time to tick something off of the bucket list. I've done a bit of research to bring you some inspo on where to go, both home and away, so you can plan the perfect babymoon.
Some popular babymoon destinations include beach resorts, spa retreats, and scenic locations where couples can enjoy various activities, from sightseeing and couples massages to dining out.
My husband and I kept it simple and did a one-night stay at Bovey Castle in Dartmoor National Park. It was lovely. And all we could afford at the time. If you're keen to stay in the UK for your babymoon destination, here are some brilliant places to check out:

First things first. It's worth choosing a destination for your babymoon that's easily accessible and making sure there are medical facilities nearby - just in case. Make sure you consult with your midwife or healthcare professional before any booking flights - just in case!
And bear in mind long flights can take their toll on already swollen ankles, so think carefully before taking the plunge.
Also, it's worth having a think about what you want from your pre baby getaway. Consider whether you and your partner have any priorities, such as an adults only pool, or what kind of trip you're looking for, for instance, a beach or city break. It's worth making sure you're on the same page so you can have a chilled, relaxing babymoon, and spend quality time with your partner before your new baby arrives.

A Few Last Tips
-
Don't overdo it, and don't feel pressured to book an expensive babymoon abroad if all you want to do is plan a staycation at your mum and dad's.
-
Drink plenty of water (it can be tricky to do that when you're away and staying in hotels, etc., so just be mindful of this.)
-
Pack nourishing snacks to have on hand if you're off for a day out. It's important to continue to eat well.
-
Keep moving - a given when you're on holiday, but best to avoid sunbathing on the beach in long stints. Stay in the shade!
-
Take your hospital notes - just in case.
-
Enjoy it!
