If you are a first-timer like me or if you have everything prepared for another World Book Day in your household, this is the place to find out everything you need to know about the worldwide celebration. This year the date is
Thursday 5th March 2020 and I was pleased to learn that it is celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child a book, which is very much taken for granted. I'm sure your household contains books in more than one room- you may have books stored on your nightstand, on shelves, bookcases and in your children's bedrooms.
This day is greatly needed to remind us all that our families are so fortunate to poses adventures from imaginary worlds at the reach of our fingertips. In 2004, the token system was extended to preschool ages which is why I am so excited for Alice this year.
How to use your £1 token
When you get your book token, all you need to do is take it to your local bookseller (there are lots of them out there) and swap it for one of the FIFTEEN exclusive, new and completely FREE World Book Day books. This year's range includes Bing, Kid Normal and Alex Rider, so something for all ages.
World Book Day in our household sees Alice dress up as Alice in Wonderland. She just loves reading all about her adventures from Wonderland in the form of pop up books. She is curious, fascinated by anything and everything which are qualities I see mirrored in my own little Alice.
Where to get costumes
We got our costume from Sainsbury's, but you can pretty much find costumes across all superstores, in the high street or online. I would recommend taking a look at what your local superstore has to offer if you have left it till the last minute, as I was really surprised at the superb range and prices from mine. You can find everything from Harry Potter to The Gruffalo!
McDonald's are also giving away free £1 book tokens with their Happy Meals at the moment, so if your child doesn't go to a nursery or school yet, you can still participate.
Happy World Book Day 2020
